Janet M. Klostermann, 73, of Tripoli, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Unity Point Health/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly with Rev. David Schatz officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 20th at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli where the Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Committal services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Olivet (Pinhook) Cemetery of rural Sumner. Memorials may be made to the family.

Janet Marie, daughter of Jerome and Thelma Hundley Esser, was born May 8, 1941, at Glen Haven, Wisconsin. At an early age she moved with her family to Guttenberg, Iowa where she attended school. On February 18, 1963, she was united in marriage with Gerald Klostermann at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg. She worked for many years at Beatrice Foods in Fredericksburg prior to retiring. Janet was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. She was also a member of the Tripoli Community Club and worked on the Tripoli Parade Committee. For several years she owned Janet’s Things & Stuff and attended craft shows, flea markets, and fairs around the state. She enjoyed wintering in Arizona and the friends she made there over the years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events. She also loved inviting herself over for dinner and going to the casino. Janet will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, Gerald of Tripoli, Janet is survived by four daughters, Lisa (Chad Page) Klostermann of Newton, Iowa, Lori (Todd) Gipple of Blue Grass, Iowa, Judy (Michael) Vauthier of Denver, Iowa, and Linda (Dan/ “Spanky”) Burgart of Tripoli; seven grandchildren, Gerald Weepie, Rebecca (Cody) Wilson, Spencer, Tyler, Joshua, and Conner Vauthier, and Amber (fiancé, Ben Osborn) Klostermann; four sisters, Perry McGeough, Rachel Cline, and Martha Montague, all of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Vicki (Jim) Stoffel of Norwalk, Iowa; one brother, Matt Esser of Guttenberg; and three sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Venteicher, Delores Neuhaus, and Marian Klostermann.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
